East of Scotland
East Scotland has many places to visit and a mix of attractions to suit everyone. If you head north up the east coast you will find the famous
home of Golf, St Andrews. Recently voted the best place to bring up children in Scotland due to it's stunning scenery, good education and
affluent background. St Andrews is a small town ( approx 15,000 residents ) based on the coast and also boasts one of Scotland's best beaches. It
is no surprise that St Andrews is often described as the " jewel in the crown " of the East of Scotland.
The old course at St Andrews is a regular host for the British Golf Open and the town's local university was also frequented by royalty recently
as Prince William completed his degree at St Andrews University. St Andrews is part of the kingdom of Fife which also includes Dunfermline,
another Scottish town with a rich history.
Heading further up the east coast will bring you to the city of discovery, Dundee and the bright northern lights of the granite city , Aberdeen.
These are two of the largest cities in Scotland and offer a variety of tourist attractions while also providing excellent student facilities such
as Dundee University, Abertay University and Aberdeen Unniversity.
You will also find some fine beaches in Aberdeen and also a championship class golf course at Royal Aberdeen, indeed Donald Trump attempted to
launch a world class golf estate in the north east area next to Aberdeen. Nightlife in Aberdeen is good with many pubs and clubs that serve the
vibrant student population and the offshore workers who work on the oil rigs based in the North Sea close to Aberdeen.
Of course if you are visiting the East of Scotland, no trip would be complete without visiting the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh. You can spend
many days in this historic city as Edinburgh has famous attractions such as the Edinburgh Tattoo show, Edinburgh festival, Edinburgh Castle and
some great shopping on Princess Street. There are many other things to do in Edinburgh and you will find many places to stay in Edinburgh
including Hilton Edinburgh hotels and budget hotels in Edinburgh.
