Eating out Glasgow

Eating out in Glasgow is almost like opening a box of chocolates as you have so many choices ! Glasgow boasts hundreds of restaurants where you can find quality dining, raging from cheap traditional food shops to classy upmarket restaurants. Glasgow offers a cosmopolitan selection of eating establishments including Dings ( Chinese ) , The Italian kitchen and Café India. Many of the pubs in Glasgow will also offer bar meals which can be as little as £5.95 for a two course meal. You can also experience a traditional fish supper when in Glasgow from one of the many chip shops in the city centre that specialise in deep fried food.




From March 2006 all public places have had to adhere to a total smoking ban although many pubs and restaurants offer a designated smoking place just outside the main premises, but be warned stepping outside for a smoke in Winter Scottish weather is not a great experience ! . This smoking ban at first was treated with a lukeworm response by the Scottish public but many diners are now returning to restaurants in Glasgow since they have adopted this no smoking policy.

There are many Indian, Chinese , Italian and even Japanese restaurants now in Glasgow and recently some tapas style café bars have became very popular. Glasgow has an abundance of restaurants and in general it is not necessary to book tables in advance during the week but the better restaurants will require advance bookings during the busy weekend period. Most eating places in Glasgow will also offer pre-theatre menus where you can enjoy a 3 course meal for a discounted price if you dine at an early evening time, example would be between 5-7 p.m.

There is no general rule when tipping staff but a good guide would be 10-15% for waiting staff and round up any taxi fares to the nearest pound sterling. You will also find all the popular fast food outlets in Glasgow including Burger King, MacDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Pizza hut . Value meals in fast food outlets will start from as little as £3 but you may want to choose a more healthy option such as fresh food at the many Subway franchises that have opened in Glasgow.
