Hogmany in Edinburgh

Hogmany ( new years eve 31st December ) is a great time to visit Scotland and enjoy the famous street party in Edinburgh celebrating the new year in traditional Scottish style with live bands, entertainment and of course a wee dram ( whisky ). Remember if you are attending the hogmany party it is recommended to wear warm clothing as temperatures in Edinburgh can often drop below freezing during the new year period ! To attend the Hogmany party in Edinburgh you will need to obtain official tickets which can be bought from various local outlets. You are also advised to book accommodation well in advance as finding a bed in Edinburgh on new years eve is not easy due to the popularity of the Hogmany event !




It is tradition in Scotland to “ first foot “ after the new year bells, basically this is when you greet the fisrt person that enters your house in the new year and is a very popular custom in Scotland every new year.

Beaches in Edinburgh

This may come as a surprise but you will find a few beaches in the Edinburgh area ! Portobello is now part of Edinburgh and not far from Leith so you can enjoy a summer swim or head further out to places like Aberlady Bay , Cramond or Gullane. Sun bathing conditions are probably only possible 3-4 months per year but a brisk walk alongside the beach enjoying the fresh air of Scotland is recommended at all times !
