Nightlife in Glasgow

There are many discos and nightclubs in Glasgow which cater for all . The west end of Glasgow is a great place for a night out with many pubs serving the large student population due to the nearby Glasgow University. On average you will pay around £2.20 for a pint of beer but this can increase if you are drinking in a city centre bar or in the trendy Merchant City area.

The main nightclubs are situated in the city centre and will often stay open until 4 a.m , if you are still looking for action after the nightclub head out towards the Riverboat Casino which is located on the River Clyde where you can enjoy a meal or drink and play Blackjack, Poker etc….




Dress code in most nightclubs will be smart but casual ( ie no trainers ) although many of the student based discos will be more relaxed in their dress policy. You need to be over the age of 18 for most pubs and clubs although a few clubs will operate an over 21 door policy so you may require photo id such as a passport. Don’t forget to visit the Tennents Caledonian Brewery at the top of Duke Street ! Tennents Lager is Scotlands most popular beer and sponsors main events such as the Tennents Scottish Cup ( football ) and T in the park ( music festival ) .

Music in Glasgow

Music lovers will not be disappointed in Glasgow with some outstanding music venues such as the Royal Concert Hotel, Scottish Exhibition Centre and the famous Glasgow Barrowlands. Up and coming bands will often perform at the small King Tuts Wah Wah Hut which is in the city centre and is where the famous band “ Oasis “ were discovered. Other prominent Glasgow artists include Travis, Texas and Simple Minds. The famous Glaswegian comedian Billy Connolly was also very active in the folk music scene in the 1960’s.

Many pubs in the East end offer live entertainment at the weekends and some of the top bands also perform at the Queen Margaret Union University and Glasgow University Union.
