Things to do in glasgow
If you are a soccer fan you find a hotbed of activity with soccer being an integral part of life in Glasgow as most soccer fans will follow
Glasgow Rangers who play at Ibrox and Glasgow Celtic who play at Celtic Park ( also known as Parkhead ) . Crowds of over 50,000 are common at
every game and the local derby is known as the “ Old Firm Clash “ . Famous players to have performed for the Old Firm include legends such as
Jimmy Johnstone, Kenny Dalglish ( Celtic ) and Jim Baxter and Ally McCoist ( Rangers ).
You can also learn about the history of Scottish football at the Football Museum at Hampden Park where you will watch famous archives . Other
major teams in the West of Scotland include Motherwell, St Mirren and Kilmarnock. The Kelvin Hall in Glasgow will host athletic events and you
can also watch other sports such as rugby at the West of Scotland ground or Golf at the Haggs Castle championship course. Major events such as
the Special Olympic games and the Chamions league football final have recently been held in Glasgow.
Transport in Glasgow
Public transport is good in Glasgow with a thriving local bus service throughout the city and two main rail stations. Glasgow Central trains
travel to a variety of destinations throughout the West of Scotland and also link to England with the London route being the most popular. You
can get to Edinburgh within 45 minutes if you take a train from Glasgow Queen Street which is located next to the George Square in Glasgow City
Centre.
There is a taxi rank outside Glasgow Central train station and if you need to commute to Glasgow International Airport ( 7 miles way ) it will
cost about £9.50 , at the moment there is no direct train link to the Airport but this is being planned for completion over the next few
years.
Shopping Centre Glasgow
Like most modern cities , Glasgow boasts an impressive array of fine shops. You can visit the massive Braehead shopping centre located just
outside Glasgow, St. Enoch Centre or the Buchannan Galleries in Glasgow City Centre. Main UK stores such as John Lewis, Marks and Spencer, GAP
and Debenhams can be found in Glasgow. Every weekend you will find many car boot sales throughout the west of Scotland or you could visit the
famous “ Glasgow Barras “ located in the east end where local traders sell a variety of goods at an outdoor market.
You will also find the largest IKEA furniture store in Britain which is located next to Braehead shopping centre. Glasgow city centre has a
variety of shops and most are within walking distance although you will have to take a bus or taxi out to the Braehead shopping centre or why not
jump on the special boat that costs around £4.50 that also heads down to the River Clyde to Braehead.
